Biopharmaceutical Section Seeks Applications for $15k Scholarship

The Nonclinical Biostatistics Working Group of the ASA’s Biopharmaceutical Section is offering a scholarship program for students in US graduate programs. Possible disciplines include (bio)statistics, data science, and engineering.

To apply, a student and faculty mentor (industry co-mentor optional) must submit a research proposal addressing a topic in nonclinical biostatistics. The proposal should lead to a publishable manuscript.

The scholarship provides up to $15,000, with at least $10,000 going directly to the student and the balance available to the faculty mentor. Any overhead or indirect costs are the responsibility of the faculty mentor and cannot be paid from these funds. Applicants without a named industry co-mentor will be assisted in locating one by the scholarship steering committee.

The directing professor and student will receive free admission to the 2025 Nonclinical Biostatistics Conference and make either an oral or poster presentation. The research will be published in the Statistics in Biopharmaceutical Research special conference issue subject to the normal refereeing process.

Students from currently underrepresented groups in the nonclinical biostatistics community are strongly encouraged to apply. The application due date is February 1.

Interested applicants should submit the following by email to John Kolassa:

  • Names and contact information for the student, faculty sponsor, and industry mentor
  • A research proposal of no more than 1,000 words
  • Student CV and transcript
  • Anticipated period of research (e.g., a summer, a semester, or longer)
  • A plan for allocating the funds
