Get Involved

The American Statistical Association (ASA) strives to involve young professionals in all aspects of the association. There are many opportunities for you to become involved. How you get involved is up to you, but your collective involvement is what makes the ASA such a valuable resource for all members.

Network

  • ASA Community—Peers use tools to communicate and collaborate in this online setting for statisticians.
  • Meetings—The ASA sponsors meetings and workshops around the world. The ASA’s chapters and sections also organize smaller meetings that focus on specific areas of research and application.
  • Events—Meetings and workshops concerning statistics are listed in the ASA’s calendar of events.

Volunteer

  • Committees—Volunteers work to further the statistical profession.
  • Chapters—Members use these to network and exchange statistical knowledge with those near home.
  • Sections—Members join these to further the development of statistics in specialized fields.

Outreach

  • Science Policy—Statisticians use congressional visits, letters, and board of directors statements to connect with policymakers and advocate on behalf of statisticians.
  • Caucus of Academic Representatives—Leaders of statistics and biostatistics departments within the United States promote the statistics discipline within the academic community and provide resources for academic statisticians to advocate for the discipline.
  • Directories of Minority Statisticians and Statistical Consultants—These extend the ASA’s reach beyond the typical member.
  • Statistics without Borders—Comprised entirely of volunteers, this apolitical organization provides pro bono statistical consulting and assistance to organizations and government agencies in support of these organizations’ not-for-profit efforts to deal with international health issues (broadly defined).
  • Isolated Statisticians—Academic statisticians who are the only statistician (or one of two) in a department come together to collaborate.
