Annually, the Teaching of Statistics in the Health Sciences Section of the American Statistical Association offers the Young Investigator Award to recognize a promising “young investigator” for his/her promise as a statistics educator or conducting statistics education research in the health sciences. A young investigator is defined as a current graduate student or recent graduate who received their terminal degree no more than seven years ago, is in a position with rank below associate professor, and does not hold tenure (or an equivalent classification).
The recipient receives a certificate and $500 cash award and is recognized at the section’s annual business meeting and mixer at the Joint Statistical Meetings.
Consideration for this award requires the following:
- Nomination letter certifying the nominee meets eligibility criteria (maximum of one single-spaced page).
- Copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae. Use color to highlight components of the CV particularly associated with statistics education research.
- PDF of a published paper with the nominee as first author. The topic must be related to the use of effective methods in statistics education or innovative statistics education research in the health sciences.
- Nominee must be a current member of the Teaching of Statistics in the Health Sciences Section.
