Statistics in Marketing Section Announces Dissertation Award

The American Statistical Association Section on Statistics in Marketing is accepting submissions for its 2026 Doctoral Dissertation Research Award, which recognizes outstanding dissertation research at the intersection of marketing and statistical methods. Qualified doctoral candidates around the world are invited to submit a research paper based on their dissertation.

An award committee appointed by the section will evaluate submissions for their potential contribution to the application of statistics in marketing. Review criteria include conceptual clarity, rigor, creativity, and overall quality. Finalists will be notified in January 2026.

Submissions are due by December 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST. The winning researcher will receive a $1,000 prize and a plaque. Finalists will each receive $250 and funding to cover the 2026 Joint Statistical Meetings student registration fee. All finalists will present their research in a session sponsored by the Section on Statistics in Marketing at JSM 2026 in Boston, which will take place August 1–6, 2026.

Eligible applicants must be doctoral candidates at accredited universities pursuing degrees in marketing, statistics, or related fields such as psychology, economics, management, or strategy. Students should expect to graduate between September 2025 and August 2026. Finalists are required to present their work at JSM 2026 and must be student members of the American Statistical Association.

Applicants must submit the following three PDF documents to Shibo Li:

  1. A title page with identifying information and acknowledgments
  2. A research paper of no more than 30 pages with identifying information removed for blind review
  3. A brief letter from the chair of the PhD committee confirming the student’s candidacy, expected graduation date, and that the submitted paper is based on their dissertation

Questions about the award or submission process may be directed to Li.
