Educators, graduate students, and professionals interested in statistics and data science education are invited to apply for the 2026–2027 mentoring program offered by the ASA Section on Statistics and Data Science Education.
Now entering its ninth year, the nine-month program connects mentors and mentees for career guidance; professional development; and discussions related to teaching, curriculum development, research, and career planning. Participants typically meet once a month for approximately 30 minutes, either remotely or in person, though meeting schedules can be adjusted to fit individual goals and needs.
The program runs from August 17, 2026, through May 14, 2027. New this year, participants are not required to be members of the American Statistical Association or the Section on Statistics and Data Science Education.
The program is open to educators across the broader statistics and data science community, including those working in K–12 schools, AP programs, community colleges, colleges and universities, industry, and government. PhD students who expect to graduate during or before the 2026–2027 academic year are also encouraged to apply.
Mentees are matched with experienced educators who can provide guidance on topics such as teaching strategies, education research, career transitions, and the academic or professional job search. Mentors also help participants build connections within the statistics and data science education community. Program organizers match mentors and mentees based on factors such as career goals, teaching interests, and research interests.
Individuals interested in serving as both a mentor and a mentee should submit separate applications for each role. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by August 7, though applications will continue to be accepted throughout the summer.
Current participants who wish to continue in the program must submit a new application.
