STATtr@k is a publication of the American Statistical Association that connects statistics to real-world decisions, everyday life, and the people behind the work. Our goal is to make statistics accessible, relevant, and engaging for a broad audience while supporting students, early-career professionals, and experienced statisticians who want to expand their public impact.

As a contributor, you are helping shape how the public understands data, uncertainty, and decision-making in a complex world.

Our Audience

We write for students, early-career statisticians, professionals in related fields, and a general audience interested in data and decision-making. We do not assume advanced statistical training.

Tone and Style

We aim for writing that is clear, conversational, engaging, and insightful. Avoid jargon, equations, and dense academic writing whenever possible. If technical terms are necessary, explain them in simple language.

Article Structure

Most STATtr@k articles follow the following pattern:

1. Start with a real-world question or story.
2. Explain the statistical concept.
3. Show why it matters.
4. End with an insight or practical takeaway.

Length Guidelines

Short articles: 600–900 words
Features: 1,200–1,800 words

Editorial Process

Our editorial team works collaboratively. The process typically includes topic discussion, draft submission, developmental editing, and final review.

Send your idea to the ASA’s communication manager, Megan Murphy.
