The Junior Fellows Program is a unique internship experience that gives you a paid research assistantship, plus educational benefits that can expand the horizons of what you can do in your career.
Junior fellows will be placed at various statistical and survey organizations in the Washington, DC, area. From the end of May until the beginning of August 2018, junior fellows will be expected to work 40 hours per week on tasks associated with the development, deployment, and analysis of surveys. Each fellowship is unique, and tasks vary significantly, from cognitive interviewing to data cleaning to interviewer training to imputation to data analysis and visualization. The Summer Institute in Biostatistics (SIBS)—sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)—provides a comprehensive six- to seven-week program designed to expose undergraduate students to the exciting opportunities offered by a career in biostatistics and encourage them to pursue graduate study in the field. The term “biostatistics” is used in the broad sense, including statistical genetics, bioinformatics, and data science.
