Students in statistics programs can benefit from participating in statistical conferences and other professional activities. To aid these students in their involvement, the ASA’s Quality and Productivity Section (Q&P) initiated a student scholarship program to attend the Joint Statistical Meetings. This year, six $400 scholarships were awarded to the following students to attend JSM in Boston, Massachusetts:
- Barbara Wendelberger, University of Wisconsin
- Caleb King, Virginia Tech
- Shuyu Chu, Virginia Tech
- Trenton Nash Brown, University of South Dakota
- Weijie Shen, Penn State
- Yiming Peng, Virginia Tech
Recipients were recognized at the joint Q&P/SPES mixer at JSM.
Looking forward to 2015, Q&P will offer up to three travel awards of $400 each for students enrolled in a graduate program with a concentration in applied statistics and/or quality management to attend JSM in Seattle, Washington, from August 8–13. Student applicants must show a demonstrated interest in quality applications, as evidenced by course work, research topic, or work experience. Applicants either presenting a paper or participating in a poster session will receive extra consideration.
Applications will be accepted February 1 to March 31, 2015. Complete information about the award and how to apply is posted here.
