The Analytics Section of INFORMS and SAS are sponsoring a scholarship program for the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research in San Antonio, Texas, April 7–9. The scholarship will cover the cost of attending the conference and additional networking opportunities.
Applicants are invited to prove their analytical prowess by creating a statement of work (SOW) that outlines how they would approach a business problem if hired to address it as an outside consultant for a case study based on a real-life project. For details about the available data and expectations, download the PDF of the full case study.
Judges will rate the SOW submission based on cohesion, proper use of assumptions, the technical and presentation skill demonstrated in the document, and practicality of the proposed approach in solving the business problem. The winner will be selected as would occur in a real bidding contest. Download a PDF of the complete rules and additional guidance.
From February 1 at 9:00 a.m. to February 19 at 5:00 p.m. EST, a discussion board will be open on Allanalytics.com, where applicants may post up to five questions to case study representatives. Questions are not required, but are highly recommended.
Students who are at least 18 years old; enrolled in a full-time, accredited degree-granting program in analytics, operations research, management science, or a related field; and still have their full-time student status at the time of the conference are eligible to apply. Apply by sending an email to polly.mitchell-guthrie@sas.com. Applications must be received by February 20 to be considered.
