Poster Submissions Wanted for MBSW

The Biopharmaceutical Section is cosponsoring, along with Ball State University, the Midwest Biopharmaceutical Statistics Workshop (MBSW) from May 21–23 at the Alumni Center of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

The 2012 workshop features three, half-day short courses: Comparative Effectiveness Using Observational Research by Thomas Love, High-Dimensional Data and Nonnegative Matrix Factorization by Paul Fogel, and Prevention and Treatment of Missing Data by Craig Mallinckrodt.

This year’s workshop theme is “Strategic Use of Statistical Thinking.” The Monday afternoon plenary session speakers are Lee Wilkinson, who will give a talk titled “Expert Systems and Statistical Graphics,” and Lisa LaVange, who will present “Select Regulatory Statistical Challenges.”

Contributed posters will be accepted for the poster session on Tuesday over the lunch hour, with Paul Berg of Eli Lilly serving as chair. Posters will be considered on any biopharmaceutical statistical topic. Abstracts must be submitted by April 20.

Students are especially encouraged to participate in the MBSW activities. To help financially, limited scholarships are available to students to offset travel costs, with preference given to students who present posters. The best student poster, as judged by a committee including past workshop chairs, will receive the Charles Sampson Award, named in honor of a founder and guiding force behind this series of workshops. Students or faculty sponsors interested in applying for scholarships should access the website or contact Berg at pberg@lilly.com.

The cost of the workshop is $195 and includes most meals. Inexpensive accommodations are available in Muncie.
