Thomas Birkner was recently awarded the ASA Section on Statistics in Epidemiology’s Young Investigator Award, presented August 2, 2011, by the American Statistical Association during its Joint Statistical Meetings in Miami, Florida. Birkner, who recently earned his doctoral degree in the UAB School of Public Health Department of Biostatistics, presented his award-winning paper, “Bayesian Approaches for Estimating Prevalence Based on Pool Screening When Observing Zero Positive Pools.”
The award is available to graduate students in statistics, biostatistics, and epidemiology or recent graduates from a master’s or doctoral program in these departments. The prize is $750 and a certificate.
