Special Career Issue Spotlights Career Paths and Experiences

This year, the Special Career issue of Amstat News focuses on unique careers and the sometimes challenging paths statisticians have taken to get to where they are today.

To start with, we highlight a few influential statisticians such as Howard Wainer, Sharon Lohr, and Megan Price. These statisticians each took different journeys, but followed their passion to find success in their fields.

Then, we feature statisticians who work in unique industries. For instance, Ryan Struyk is a statistician who works at CNN and Lyndsay Nobel took a winding career path that led through a winery and eventually to a start-up within a giant company.

In addition to reading about different journeys, you’ll learn what Wikimedia Foundation employees discovered when they sought to employ a statistician in Hiring a Data Scientist. Also, in Rising Star Talks About Statistics Journey, Future of the Profession, you’ll learn Lucy D’Agostino McGowan’s take on the future of statistics.

Plus, we have interviews with data scientists, including Julie Novak who works for Netflix and Bob Komara who works for MSX International.

If there is an article you would like to see or a statistician you would like to read about in next year’s special issue, send your suggestions to Amstat News Managing Editor Megan Murphy.
